Matthews Beach Neighborhood | Seattle
This defined neighborhood appears to be more of a place, than a knit community as a whole. City planners have described Matthews Beach as containing a rather large inland area away from Lake Washington right next to Meadowbrook and north of Wedgwood. And moreover, Meadowbrook is a bit nondescript as well when it comes to identifiable neighborhood traits one would normally find and describe.
Perhaps this observation may be as expected since the core neighborhood or district is known as Lake City to everyone, and the contained sub-neighborhoods are just there to support the 'main act'.
Nevertheless, for those who live in these amorphic locations, this is beloved home, and you also may well appreciate those elusive traits that others value and hold dear.
At the heart of Matthews Beach is well.........the beach........in fact, the largest swimming beach in all of Seattle. And all those intrepid souls whose property runs to Lake Washington from the beach area northward.......... well, it's not evident they are much concerned what neighborhood they are in, since they have their own quality of life that being on the water brings.
As we consider all those additional homes to the west located on the typical Seattle grid layout, their occupied origins greatly accelerated following WWII, and were welcomed, comfortable housing for part of the millions returning stateside, in pursuit of raising families in affordable housing.
Today, the Matthews Beach area is blessed in a number of ways supporting its attractiveness and perceived high quality of life. Namely......78% home ownership and 97% graduation rate, choice of quality schools, and ideal low density of only single family homes with good access to child care. And resident amenities like the Burke-Gilman Trail, access to farmers markets and a colorful choice of eateries and very convenient grocery stores.
Closer to the water areas will sport an wide assortment of homes, from original beach cabins to more modern structures with everything else in between. And as you look toward the west, the grid aligned homes blend right in with those of Meadowbrook and are more likely to be of random repeatable design, produced by volume builders of the day.
Matthews Beach and all the other communities within the Lake City District, warrant your consideration for many reasons that are as individual............as you are.
