Gotta get me some of them monkeys!!
In case you missed this hot news when you were perusing the funnies on Sunday, according to the Journal of Current Biology reporting the findings of a serious study conducted by the University of Leipzig and the Universiti Sains Malaysia.....it seems a monkey called the pig-tailed macaque is cleaning up its image as the bad boy of palm oil plantations where it has been devouring the prized fruits. Now, so the data supports, the monkey has demonstrated a large appetite for rats that also infest these plantations.
While the monkeys eat 12.4 tons of fruit per year in a monitored area, rats in the same area eat 18x as much fruit as the monkeys. But with an appetite for rat meat, the macaques have reduced rat populations by as much as 75%.
Now.....I don't know about you........but learning this really made my day!
Nevertheless, the real beneficiary of this situation is Maylasia, the world's leading producer of palm oil with annual production at some 19.4 million tons of the stuff!!
I'm so excited over this news........I'm even thinking of buying some back issues of The Journal!! You just never know where the next blog content nugget will be found that everybody just can't wait to hear about!
Stay tuned...........
