The City of Beaux Arts Village
In 1908, the grand plan for the Beaux Arts Community was to establish an arboreal enclave for artists. As time passed, physicians and surgeons, upper management folks, lawyers and financial executives eventually outnumbered and displaced the artists. However, current residents appreciate living like the founders did --- enjoying the peace and tranquility of nature in a setting that is all too rare today.
Covering just 128 acres, the Village is the smallest municipal jurisdiction in King County, with residents numbering 299 in 2010. Things are so relaxed and homey in the Village, that in lieu of a city hall, town meetings just take place in residents’ homes.
A short distance south of downtown Bellevue near I-90 and the East Channel Bridge lies this gem waiting silently not to be discovered. Thoreau would be proud.
